Woman dies after being struck by driver who was high

There's no reason for drivers to drive drunk or intoxicated. Doing so can put you at risk, even when you're following the rules of the road. If you've been a pedestrian who has been struck by a car, then you could already be considering working with your attorney to receive compensation. Doing so through a civil case can help drive the point home that what the driver did was dangerous and uncalled for.

A driver who was in an accident with a pedestrian at a crosswalk has been accused of smoking marijuana before he hit the woman and severely wounded her. The driver, a 27-year-old man, was in the accident just after 8:00 a.m., when the woman began crossing the road at East Burnside Street. The man struck the woman as she was crossing in the marked crosswalk; some claim the light at the intersection was yellow, but others said it was red when the man collided with her.

The woman was struck so hard that she was thrown 35 feet, the report states. She suffered serious injuries including a broken back, arm, left leg and pelvis. The 46-year-old woman was said to be in serious condition following the accident, but in a recent update, it was announced that the woman had died after taking a turn for the worst at the hospital.

The man had been smoking pot before driving that day. Witnesses claimed he was smoking just a short time before he got into his vehicle and had the accident. He's been charged with fourth-degree assault, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, though the police are still investigating how much marijuana influenced the collision.
