The police are investigating a serious two-vehicle car accident that happened in west Eugene, Oregon. The injuries to a 3-year-old child were so severe that, after the emergency crews offered what treatment they could at the crash site, the child had to be airlifted to a hospital in Portland.
Reports show that the crash occurred around 2:45 on a Sunday morning — Sept. 24, 2017. The wreck was near the intersection where West 11th Avenue meets Greenhill. At that point, one of the vehicles left the road and slammed directly into a light pole.
The 3-year-old, along with two adults and one other child, was in that vehicle. A male adult was also hurt in the crash — he was a passenger in the vehicle that hit the light pole — and brought to a local hospital, but his injuries were not serious enough to require the airlift to Portland.
The other child in the car got through the incident without any injury, and the woman who was driving the car only suffered minor injuries.
Reports are not clear on the role of the second car, only saying that it was involved in the crash and then left the scene. As such, the authorities are still carrying out their investigation to determine how that car was involved and who was at fault in the crash — though leaving the scene of an accident resulting injury is illegal on its own.
