Pedestrians are at a higher risk of death or injury if they’re impacted than almost anyone else on the roads. They have little to no protection against a collision, taking the full force of the vehicle on impact.
It’s not surprising when a pedestrian is killed when hit, but it is tragic all the same. Most collisions are preventable, especially when it’s a driver who was not paying attention at the time of the crash.
A 33-year-old woman was killed in a pedestrian accident in Oregon, according to a Mar. 5 report. She was struck by a car at around 1:00 a.m., at the intersection where Southeast 187th Place and Southeast Division Street meet. When officers arrived, the woman had already passed away. They have stated that she died at the scene in their official reports.
The driver stayed at the scene of the accident. Police reported that they don’t believe that speed, alcohol or drugs played a role in this collision. So far, the name of the victim has not been released, since her family had not yet been notified. The police reported that the driver did stay at the scene and cooperated.
This is not the first collision in Gresham. There was a second pedestrian accident on the same day, according to the news. Both occurred within two hours of each other.
When accidents begin to increase in a certain area, sometimes the roadways play a part in the collisions. Usually, these incidents are avoidable if both pedestrians and drivers pay attention. If you’re hit by a driver, you have a right to seek a claim.
