Oregon Safety Break for 2017 scheduled across the state

No one likes getting hurt, and it's particularly bad when your injury affects your work. That's why the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration has scheduled its 14th annual Safety Break. This is a day in which employers are invited to learn about workplace safety, health and training. They are invited to join with creative activities and to witness local businesses being awarded.

OSHA uses this day to encourage employers to promote safety and worker health in the workplace. At the event, businesses talk with OSHA about the importance of workplace safety and health along with how to prevent serious injuries, illnesses and death in the workplace. This day is a single moment where business owners can take a break, learn and recognize the importance of safety and health in the workplace.

OSHA also celebrates businesses with an awards ceremony. Companies that participate in the day even have a chance to win one of three $100 checks that can be used for a luncheon.

This event is flexible, with all-day activities that employers and employees can participate in. Events take place all across the state, not just at a single location, so business owners, managers and others have an opportunity to participate in a location near them.

OSHA states on its Safety Break website that when workers return home safely at the end of the day, workers' compensation costs and insurance premiums are reduced. This is a win-win for employees and employers, who all should be committed to working in a safe environment.
