Anytime a person walks along the roadway, there is the chance of becoming embroiled in an accident. For the most part, as long as a pedestrian and any nearby motorists are abiding by the rules of the road, all is well and everyone is safe. However, a pedestrian accident recently occurred in Oregon when a man became the victim of a hit and run accident.
The incident occurred on a Saturday morning, around 3:15 a.m. A 41-year-old was walking in the bike lane on the highway. He was near a right turn lane when he was hit. The man was said to be in critical condition after the accident.
The person whose vehicle hit the pedestrian took off from the scene. Police are investigating the incident and have asked for any help from the public so as to identify whoever hit the man. They report that the vehicle involved may have damage to the headlight, windshield or the side mirror.
Whenever police investigate and ask for public help to locate a hit and run driver and solve a pedestrian accident, they typically find the responsible party. In incidents such as this, the driver who hit the pedestrian may face criminal charges. Despite the possibility of any criminal charges, the victim in this case –or any similar case — may have the option to pursue a personal injury suit in an Oregon civil court. A successful civil suit can yield a judgment for monetary damages that may be beneficial as a victim contends with medical bills, lost wages and other financial losses related to being the victim of a hit and run accident.
