A tragic auto accident in Oregon has claimed the lives of two elderly residents of the state. The auto accident took place on Highway 22, and the wife died at the scene of the accident. The 90-year-old husband was taken for medical treatment, but he later died as a result of the severe injuries he had suffered.
The elderly Oregon couple was traveling along Highway 22 in their Buick sedan. According to the police report, the man was driving in the left lane and attempted to turn into the parking lot of a restaurant. The vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a van. The two people who were traveling in the van also received medical treatment for their injuries.
That particular stretch of Highway 22 has been critiqued for possible safety issues in the past. Within the last five years, there have been 15 accidents in that spot. Two of the 15 accidents were fatal, illustrating the possible need for a closer investigation into the conditions of this road. If there is a problem with the road, it is possible that some of these accidents were caused by road safety and not driver error.
One individual noted that, on this particular road, people tend to drive too fast and ignore the posted speed limit. It is also possible that speeding drivers or poor design contributed to some of the 15 accidents that have occurred in that spot. It may seem difficult to determine liability and seek recompense from the responsible party in some cases, but victims of an auto accident that was caused by another party or individual could be eligible for financial compensation.
