An Oregon woman is facing criminal charges after a tragic accident that happened recently on a local roadway. The auto accident that led to the criminal allegations happened late on a weekday night. When it ended, a woman was dead and another had been arrested.
According to a report from Oregon officials, the driver of a car and her passenger were in the westbound lanes of Northwest Division Street just prior to the auto accident. As she drove, the driver made a turn onto Portland’s Northwest Bella Vista Place. As she did, the passenger in the car was tossed from the vehicle.
Though it is unclear as of yet what led to the ejection from the vehicle, what is clear is that the passenger rolled into oncoming traffic. There she was struck and killed by another car. Police have stated that the oncoming driver could not have avoided running over the now-deceased victim.
The driver at fault for this accident has been charged with crimes such as DUI and reckless endangerment. In addition, she may find that she faces liability under Oregon personal injury laws for her actions that resulted in her passenger’s death. Such a claim can be made by the survivors of the deceased victim and can include damages caused by the wrongful death. Such actions are common when this type of accident happens in our state. While a successfully litigated case rarely helps repair the emotional damage caused by an auto accident, it can greatly help with the expenses associated with such a case.
