Tragic accidents can happen at any time, even when drugs or alcohol aren’t part of the equation. Pedestrians need to be careful near roadways in Portland, and drivers always need to be wary of those who may be on the streets. When drivers don’t pay attention, pedestrians can be hit and killed. If you’re hit by a driver, it’s important to consider making a claim for the compensation you need to cover your medical costs and lost wages.

An off-duty firefighter in Vancouver was killed recently while walking on the 500 block of NE 112th Avenue at night. It has been reported if he was crossing or was with anyone else at the time of the collision.

What is known is that it was dark at around 10:30 p.m. when the accident took place; the 27-year-old man was struck by a 25-year-old man from Vancouver who was driving in the area.

According to the news, the 25-year-old driver did not leave the scene and cooperated with police while the officer was rushed to the hospital for the treatment of his injuries. He died there later that night due to the severity of his wounds.

Police have said that the crash is still being investigated, and neither speeding nor alcohol seem to be involved at this point. However, they have not excluded the possibility that distractions or speeding could have been a cause of the crash. As of now, the driver has not been arrested, and no charges have been placed.

Most shockingly, while the police were investigating this accident, another vehicle nearly it the officers at the scene. That driver was arrested under the suspicion of drunk driving.
