Former congressman collides with pedestrian in Oregon

When you're a pedestrian, your very life could be in danger if a driver isn't paying attention. If a person takes a corner too quickly, doesn't see you have a WALK signal or speeds through a red light, you could quickly be hit and severely injured.

A former U.S. congressman from Oregon has been involved in a collision that cost one pedestrian his life. The congressman, 84, was driving a 2015 Acura MDX north on King Street when he turned left and hit a pedestrian who was inside the crosswalk.

The 58-year-old pedestrian died at the scene of the crash, and the congressman stayed to speak with police. He has been cooperative, they report, and they have been able to determine that the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Investigators are trying to determine if a walk signal had been present when the pedestrian began to cross the street, and they're also looking into whether or not the congressman had a green arrow signaling that he could turn left. In either case, the lieutenant of the police department in Medford has reported that they may never know for certain who had which lighting sequence. After the investigation is completed, they may have more answers.

In cases like this, families can be left feeling frustrated; they don't have the answers they want or need. If you or a loved one are hurt in a crash like this one, it can be a difficult time for you. Fortunately, you can file a claim for compensation, and you can provide evidence to your attorney for review.
