Oregon workers' compensation can help when death happens

Oregon readers will be saddened to learn of the tragic death of a man who was on the job when he died. The man worked in another state on the site of the construction of a new stadium for a major league football team. Now, the survivors of the man may seek a claim from his home state's workers' compensation insurance program.

According to a report, the man was on the job at the soon-to-be completed stadium just prior to the fatal accident. As he worked, he handled large bundles of rebar, used in the steel construction of the stadium. Unfortunately, for reasons that are still being investigated, the rebar fell on the man. He died as a result of the impact.

The investigation into the tragic accident will likely center on the safety of the workplace in which the man did his job. In fact, it may interest our Oregon readers to learn that the company that employed the now-deceased worker was also the subject of an investigation earlier this year. In that case another worker died after an accident. It is unclear if his family made a workers' compensation claim.

Workers' compensation is an insurance plan intended for use by those who are either injured at work or have survived a person killed on the job. In such cases as the one here, the family can seek an award of money to assist them in making ends meet after losing a wage earner. To determine if such a claim is available, it may be helpful for people to consider seeking information from an experienced professional who can help navigate the sometimes confusing process.
