Fatal car accidents can be especially devastating when they occur near the holiday season. Oregon officials say that one such recent car accident claimed the life of a young man where it occurred near Mount Hood. The young man was only 20 years old at the time of the car accident. He was a passenger in a car involved in the fatal crash.
The car accident happened when a station wagon was travelling with at least three individuals on board. The station wagon was on a snowy Oregon road that had icy conditions. The driver of the station wagon lost control of the vehicle, causing it to slide into the opposite lane. There the car was struck by another vehicle.
The impact resulted in the death of one of the passengers in the station wagon. No other person involved appears to have suffered injury. Unfortunately, the young man who suffered fatal injuries could not be revived at the scene by first responders.
Now, the driver of the station wagon could potentially face liability for the death suffered in the car accident under Oregon personal injury laws. This liability could come as a result of a wrongful death claim made by the surviving family of the deceased man. Such a claim is not available to every victim or survivor of a car accident, but in many cases similar to this one, a person can make a claim for the damages suffered. A claim may be available when a driver is found to have acted negligently in some manner in causing or contributing to a fatal accident. Such an official determination has yet to be reported, though police may do so as they complete their inquiry into the details of the crash.
