Fatal Portland-area car accident caused by blown tire

Vehicle malfunction may have played a role in a tragic car accident on a Portland-area highway recently. Police report that an SUV carrying several people lost control after one of its tires blew. At least one victim of the car accident died, and two others suffered serious injuries.

Initial investigations into the car accident have led police to believe that the SUV blew a tire as it traveled southbound on a local highway. The driver was unable to control the vehicle, and it skidded onto the shoulder. Eventually it rolled into the grassy median before coming to a stop. The driver and one passenger were injured, and one passenger died at the scene.

In this case, the cause of the car accident appears to have been the failure of the tire. Though this can happen at any time, there may be liability for the driver or owner of the vehicle to the car accident victims. This liability may come if it is determined that the driver of the vehicle was both aware that the tires on the SUV were bad, or that he failed to take action to change them. Additionally, outside sources may be investigated including the mechanic who installed or repaired the tire, and the manufacturer of the tire.

A car accident that ends in death and injury to victims is always a tragedy. For any Portland family that has suffered the loss of a loved one, the emotional and financial damages can be high. In this case, it was a father who was killed and a son injured, which makes this accident more traumatic for their family. In some cases, those who have been injured or who have suffered a loss as a result of a car accident can recover some of the economic losses associated with an accident. Though it is too early to tell whether such action will be available to the family in this case, it is certainly an option to be considered for anyone involved in a similar accident.
