Car accident claims 2 lives, injures another near Bend

Driving near the scenic Oregon resort towns of Bend and Sisters, two men reportedly died in a two-car accident on March 17. Police report that a 62-year-old man and his 59-year-old wife were driving on Highway 20W when their Subaru was struck head-on by a Nissan Sentra after it crossed the centerline. Witnesses reported to authorities that just prior to the accident the 33-year-old Nissan driver was seen driving erratically. Both men died at the scene of the car accident.

Staring injury in the eye: Portland man hurt in head-on crash

Imagine that you are driving down the highway. It's the middle of the night and few cars are around. Suddenly, however, you see headlights. Not from the opposite lanes, but in your lane moving toward you. There may be little you can do to avoid a catastrophic collision. Perhaps you try to swerve out of the way, bracing yourself for the possibility of a crash. Unfortunately, a 38-year-old Portland man was recently put in this scenario when a woman entered the highway going the wrong direction.

Popular professor in serious bicycle car crash in Corvallis

South of Portland, down in Corvallis, many residents have seen a retired Oregon State University professor ride his bicycle around town for years. The popular local man used the bike as a mode of transportation for some 50 years, often bicycling to and from his work at OSU. The bike reportedly had a five-foot safety flag attached to the back to alert drivers to his presence. Nevertheless, the professor was the victim of a bicycle car crash on Jan. 9.
